So here is a List of What you need:
- You Need A Xbox Case Opening Tool

- A x-clamp fix kit (can get them on Ebay)
- Artic Silver 5 Thermo-compound stuff
- an important thing you will need is nylon washers
- and a small spanner i suggest you get a range of spanners so that you will have the right size
- A Power Drill
Part 1
So Part One
Make Sure Everything is unplugged from your xbox and make sure you have all of your tools ready. (make sure your xbox 360 wireless adapter is unplugged) Then You need to make sure you have some Music To Keep the Boredom away. The Firrst Thing to taking your xbox apart is the faceplate has to come off. reall simply step and should take about 2 seconds you just pull it off. then the top and bottom have to come off so make sure your hard drive is off. this is slightly harder. there is clips holding them in place i did bottom first then top. get a tiny screwdriver and put in through the holes apply a little pressure and lift the piece up and it should pop out there is three clips on each side of the xbox so you need to do twelve of these clips all together but the hard-drive side is a little trickier. the bit that sticks up is why. the clips will actually come out without the screwdriver by pulling and squezing at the same time it will pop out.one of the clips is behind a rubbery bit you have to remove it to get to the clip.
So that is both the top, bottom plates off and the face plate is off. the next step is where you need the case remover tool but first you do the front really simply there are four clips just pull each one up one is on the very edge and hard to see. tthe other side is the hard part there are 7 clips that need to be released by putting pressure on them while you are doing them so what i do is push up and down on one of the top or bottom and put the case open tool into all the clips once they all make a loud noise the case should pop off.
Now you should be left with the top bit on. You need to take off the eject button by simply pulling it off but do it with care as it is important it is only really connected by a green or black thing that comes off it and is on the actual xbox. then this is where you start to unscrew things how exciting. The Six Circled Screws in the picture are the long screws that will take the rest of the case of the 360. you need to unscrew these but keep them as they are important you cannot lose them.
Now you've got the 360s case off and are left with a cage looking thing and the motherboard, dvd drive and fans and shroud. should look something like the image nextdoor
Part 2
Part 2 - The X-clamp Fix
So What you need to do now is unconnect the dvd drive by pulling out the wires they are quite stiff but will come out just don't break them. then you need to take out the fan shroud the big white thing. then unconnect the fan and take it out. so you have a bear motherboard of an xbox 360. And also the power button must come off really simply just pull the white bit off it has a clip on the back and unscrew the three screws
Now you will want to unscrew the mother board from the base which is all the remaining screws make sure you keep them all in seperate piles. you will need some but not others. then you need to remove the mother board from the case be careful you don't want to damage it. you will then need to drill holes in the case big enough to fit your screws into were the 8 black x-clamp screws were the picture to the right will show you where they are. it is important to not screw out any new holes on the wrong screws. make sure once you have screwed them out to 5mm that you clean the case out
Now Back to the motherboard you need to flip it over and then take the x-clamps of which is what holds on the heat sinks. they are tricky to get off you should be able to do it with a flathead screwdriver but don't damage the motherboard. the heat sinks then come of which then reveals dirty processors you need to clean these off with toothpicks and alcohlic wipes and then add the atric silver 5 thermo-compound only a rice grain amount is needed. the heat sinks are the massive things that are called GPU and CPU they have loads of cooling fins on them. one is silver other is bronze. once they are off you need to take out the studs i suggest the spanner for this and they are tight but make sure the bottom of these are clean aswell as the processors.
once you have done all of this then you need to put it back. so you need to put the screws you get inside of the kit inside the holes and then add a normal washer then a nylon washer on each screw. then put the mother board on it and line the screws up. add a nylon washer the other side and then put the GPU and CPU back in place on top of the new thermo-compoundand screw them in to place. then put the power button on and give it a go if it doesn't work or gives you two lights make sure everything is connected properly add the fan and the dvd drive in and it should work but make sure to have the av cable plugged in otherwise you will get four red lights.
